Handle Problems/issues faced In The United States during The First Winter


The first problem that comes to mind when we first arrive in unites states is cold temperature. During that winter there is a possibility the weather will be very cold. We are going to see -20 to -30 degrees in Celsius scale. The winter duration may vary based on the state. mostly it is from November to march. Let's see how to handle all problems we face during this winter.

How to avoid dry skin:

  1. Using Moisturizer regularly-Apply a thick creamy moisturizer at least twice daily.
  2. Avoid hot showers-Although it is comfortable to take hot bath in the winter, it can also remove the dryness from your skin. better to bath in warm water. 
  3. Drinking plenty of water-Similar to moisture level in skin, internal hydration is also important. Drinking plenty of water helps keep yourself hydrated during the winter season.
  4. Use a humidifier-Cold air has the potential to remove cells from your skin.it is a good idea to use humidifier in your home to help maintain the moisture level of the air. This will help your skin from drying out.
  5. Wear Dresses in layer -When going outside, it can be very cold and windy. Dress in layer to protect your skin. Natural fabrics like wool will help you a lot, but don't forget to  wear soft cotton layers underneath to avoid irritation.
  6. Wear gloves and socks-Cold air can be harsh on your hands and feet. wear gloves and socks when you go outside.

How to avoid going out during first winter:

It's best to avoid going out too much during the winter / snow time. Let's take a look at some ways to spend time at home as much as possible.

  1. Indoor games: Chess, Ludo, Business or any other indoor games can be played at our comfort .
  2. Entertainment: Watching movies from OTT platforms hearing songs from YouTube and spend some quality time with family.
  3. Get together with friends: We will not go out in the winter, then we will invite our friends to our house and plan for get together with them.

How to engage baby during winter inside the house:

  1. Keeping busy at home: In the winter ,we can better avoid taking our children outside and try to keep them busy at home. We can engage them and playing with their favorite toys based on the kid's age.
  2. Indoor games: Drawing and Painting, Hide and seek, Cricket, Building blocks, Puzzle solving Story telling, Ride a cycle inside the house etc. 

Benefits of physical exercise in winter:

  • During the winter, all the joints in the body are tense, so we should do exercise, gym /yoga to keep ourselves healthy.

How to minimize outdoor time during winter:

  • In the winter, we can't go out to buy groceries, so we order online and have them delivered to our homes.
  • We have memberships with Walmart, Costco, Instacart etc .in which we order essential items like milk ,vegetables ,fruits, etc.
  • Plan to buy vegetables/ fruits from Indian supermarket as much as possible, so that we don't go outside often. Store them in the fridge and use for maximum duration before expiry.
